π Lead Magnet Club #16: "from comments to community"
hey club,
6,649 comments in 3 days.
one post. google ads + gemini 3 prompts. keyword: "GEM" but here's what most people miss: comments aren't the goal. community is.
this week i read superfans by pat flynn. one insight changed everything: you don't need millions of followers. you need 1,000 people who actually care.
what we cover:
- breakdown of the 6,649-comment google ads + gemini 3 post
- why 1,000 true fans > 100,000 followers
- π free tool: positioning compass (find your unique market angle)
- how to turn comments into actual relationships
let's dive in.
𧲠lead magnet of the week
google ads + gemini 3 prompts
6,649 comments β’ 1,728 reactions β’ 22 reposts β’ keyword: "GEM"β the post: simple visual: google ads logo + gemini 3 logo with a plus sign between them. the offer: prompts for using gemini 3 with google ads. cta:
- connect with me
- comment "GEM" below
"i'll send it straight to your DMs." ps - "i just updated the library with 30+ new resources."
why it worked:
β perfect timing β gemini 3 launched november 18th. this post capitalized on the buzz immediately. β visual simplicity β two logos + plus sign. no essay. you get it in 2 seconds. β clear value proposition β google ads people want gemini 3 prompts. specific audience, specific solution. β low friction cta β comment one word. that's it. no "download this" or "sign up here." just "GEM" β urgency through scarcity β "i just updated with 30+ new resources" = this is fresh, get it now. β viral mechanics β every comment + connection request = more distribution. linkedin's algorithm loves engagement.
the creator, Cem, knows their audience: google ads specialists looking for AI efficiency. gemini 3 launch gave them the perfect moment.

π book of the week
Superfans β Pat Flynnβ most people think viral posts are the goal. pat flynn says viral posts are just the starting line. his book superfans breaks down something kevin kelly wrote in 2008: you don't need millions of followers. you need 1,000 true fans.
the 1,000 true fans realityβ here's the math: if 1,000 people spend $100/year with you = $100k in revenue if they spend $200/year = $200k if they spend $500/year = $500k flynn's insight: "you don't need to change the entire world to build a successful business. you just need to change someone's world." the question isn't how many people see your post. it's how many people you actually connect with after.
the pyramid of fandomβ flynn shows how people move through levels:
- β casual audience β they saw your post, maybe liked it
- β active audience β they commented, connected, want more
- β connected community β they engage regularly, share your content
- β superfans β they buy everything, defend you, recruit others
cem's post got 6,649 comments. that's 6,649 people entering at "casual." but here's the reality: if you can't respond to them, most stay casual forever. they got the prompts and moved on.
superfans are built through small momentsβ flynn's key point: "superfans aren't created by one big moment. they're created by many small magical moments." the small moments: β getting the resource they asked for (instantly, not 3 days later) β a personalized follow-up that shows you remember them β early access to your next thing β feeling seen, not just counted
here's where automation meets humanityβ 6,649 DMs manually = impossible. you'd burn out or ignore 90% of them. 6,649 automated DMs = everyone gets the resource instantly. but that's not where it ends. automation handles delivery. you handle the relationship.
the real opportunity:
- week 1: automated DM delivers the resource
- week 2: follow-up email asks "which prompt helped most?"
- week 3: feature their success in your next post
- week 4: early access to your new resource
automation doesn't replace the small moments. it creates space for them. flynn would say: scale the delivery, personalize the connection.
comments vs. communityβ 6,649 comments look impressive. but flynn would ask: "how many of those people feel like they're part of something?" the difference:
- casual = got the prompts, said thanks
- active = replied to your follow-up, told you what worked
- connected = shared their results, tagged you in posts
- superfan = bought your course, referred 3 friends, defends you in comments
viral posts get you in the door. consistent small moments move people up the pyramid.
takeaway:β don't choose between scale and connection. use scale to create more connection. automate delivery so you have time for the DMs that matter. measure relationships, not just reach.
